9. ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’

Having already directed Brad Pitt in two bona fide classics (Seven in 1995 and Fight Club in…actually, it’s probably best we don’t talk about Fight Club), David Fincher tried the same trick in this travesty of a film released in 2008 – in fairness, given Fincher’s track record, perhaps he can be forgiven a misstep…

Still, as far as missteps go, this one’s a biggie. A thinly veiled attempt to recreate the magic of Forrest Gump (1994) – the two films even employed the same screenwriter – Benjamin Button (NO WAY am I referring to it by its ludicrous full title again) was a hot mess, both in its conception and realization.
